Spotted: A Thrift Trip

It's been a good long while since I've been able to take a couple of hours to just roam through a thrift store or two.  But, as last week's errands would have it, there were four of them within the near vicinity of places I had to go and since I had a little extra time on my hands (well, borrowed of course from continuing painting the kitchen), I roamed...and these things are what I spotted...

(Pssst...if you're local to Mobile, I'll put the thrift store under each photo in case you have your heart moved and want to see if any of these are still there!)

This long tray was only a couple of bucks and would be a nice valet tray to set in a bathroom or atop a dresser in the bedroom to hold pretties and things.  In a kitchen it would also make a great place to lay cooking utensils that are in use next to the stove.

Are you a plant person?  Pots can get pricey but I've always found thrift stores to have them.  These three were cute.

I didn't want to go through the hassle of unrolling and then rolling up this rug but I could tell it was cute just by the peek I got from the outside edge.  And clean too!  I know buying used rugs might seem kind of gross but, if you've got a driveway that's clean and a hot sunny day or two, you can spray them down with the hose, sprinkle them with laundry detergent, and scrub away.  Rinse and leave out to dry and, wala, good as knew - speaking from experience!

These two glass lamps had my heart pounding.  They looked almost brand new and were $22 each.  I really, really, really wanted to buy them but exercised some good 'ole prudence and walked away since I had no clue where I'd put them.  They're great as is, but I think that they'd even look better if you knew your way with lamps (it's not that hard to take one apart!), and could remove the tube between the glass and the bulb socket, shortening them to modernize them just a little bit more.  Scratch up the shiny brass a little too to make it look more brushed and bang, 2022.  2023 even!

This big headboard had simple lines and pretty moulding, making it a perfect candidate for a coat of paint and therefore, a showstopper in the bedroom.  It would rival this $850 headboard* for a very, very, very small fraction of the cost.

The color of the wood wasn't the greatest on this mirror but a little bit of bleach might help to lighten it up (something I did to these dressers) and make it look fantastic.  Or a coat of paint.  Either way, the shape was top notch.  Above a dresser, a bathroom vanity, entry way...anywhere you can imagine, it would probably work.

Another rug but even bigger than the last cute one.  It looked like jute but was super soft, unlike jute which is why I was so mesmerized by it.  Probably needed cleaning but it'd be cute by itself anywhere since it is so neutral, or layered under a smaller rug to add dimension.

I love the trending look of fluted moulding and so this table, with it's fluted legs, falls right in line.  If it had another leaf or two to accomodate our fam, I would've taken it home and gotten to work taking some of the orange tint out of the wood.

Clean lines are always a winner with bookshelves and me so I loved this one.  It was one of two and had that added little character detail in the upper corners.  Painted creamy white with a wallpapered back (my mind goes to this one) and oh my, so pretty.

Here's that fluted trend again.  This would be pretty with the wood restored or painted and would make a great coffee table.  Storage galore!  I stood looking at it for a good minute wondering if I should make it our coffee table.  I walked away because I just can't add another project to the list right now but I bet it'll be one of the those pieces I see that I'll regret not buying later.

I'm a firm believer in looking secondhand before going firsthand because I've seen with my own eyes how much overstock in furniture, clothes, accessories, etc... we have in this country and it's kind of sickening.  Not to mention that fact that when speaking of furniture, older pieces are much better made than those of today.  I don't share these spotted posts with you to make you feel bad that I've found these things here locally and you're too far away to come grab them but to inspire you to check out your local thrift stores.  You never know what you're going to find and LOVE!  Keep an open mind on hand and a scrub brush at home.  ;)

Have a great week!  If you can fit a thrift store roaming sesh in, let me know what you find!
