Battle of the Bellies

Until I get the gumption to write up Sebastian’s birth story for y’all (crossing my phalanges for later this week), I thought it’d make sense to back it up a bit and post the bump comparison pictures I took during this singleton pregnancy.  I posted them on Instagram but never blogged ‘em so for those of you who aren’t ‘grammers, take a look.  It was obvious that my twin pregnancy would laden me with a king size belly but I thought it’d be fun to see how much bigger exactly.  Check it:

12weeks

16weeks

17 weeks

18weeks

21weeks

23weeks

27weeks

30weeks

32weeks

34weeks

36weeks

37weeks

Crazy, huh?  I mean, the first half of Seb’s oven time wasn’t that much different than the girls’ but the second half?  Whoa.  And believe it or not, my singleton pregnancy was overall more difficult.  I was sore, my hips and back ached, I had some crazy nerve pain,  I was tired (because of chasing the twins around no doubt), and I had minor morning sickness up until week 15 (with the twins I had zero).  However, the weight difference was incredible.  Sebastian felt as light as a feather compared to the truckload I carried with the twins – 13 lbs. of baby compared to 7.5 lbs of baby.

Towards the end of this pregnancy I whipped up this comparison pic as well:photo 4
A 10 week difference in belly sizes!  So I wonder if that means that at 37 weeks with the twins I was actually measuring at 47 weeks…  Crazy thought.

  2. I love this!! You look great. :) I wish I had been better about taking pictures with the twins (not that I was that great with my first pregnancy either ...). I especially regret not getting a pic shortly before they were born, especially since I had an induction date and knew when they were coming. As it was we didn't remember until after I was hooked up to monitors and had lost about a gallon of amniotic fluid. :-P (Seriously, I could see my belly shrink after the OB broke the sac ... so weird.)

  3. Oh wow, such a difference toward the end!! Such cute bumps either way : )

  4. My OB stopped measuring my belly with twins once it hit 42 weeks (when I was only 30 weeks pregnant)... I only went to 34 weeks, but bet that I measured at least 47 weeks pregnant too :)

  9. I had my twins last ( at least I hope) not first so my perspective is backwards, but I thought I was only a little bigger with the boys than with the other 7, until right after I delivered them at 39 weeks and 1 day. Then I realized WOW, that was 15 lbs of baby, placentas not included!

    1. Wow! I didn't know your twins were that big! And I thought 13 pounds was a lot! You had at least 20-some pounds of baby and womb accessories!!! Crazy!

  13. Actually my twin belly was smaller than my singleton belly. The biggest difference was that by second month of twin pregnancy nothing fit me comfortable. I gain 8 lbs between 1 and second mth but later it slow down and ended only 17lbs. With my singleton i gained 27lbs. guess havin the twins 1st made weight gain less

  14. Hi Scheena!

Do you mind me asking how much weight you gained with the twin pregnancy? I'm currently pregnant with twins and I'm 18 and half weeks. I have the same build as you. You carried to 37 weeks which is amazing. I hope to do the same. I'd be lying if I said it was easy watching the scale go up! I'm just sort of wondering what to expect.

    1. Hey! Congratulations! You are in for a treat! :)

I can't remember the exact number but I know it was between 50 and 55. Eek! I know! But, A LOT of that was baby (almost 13 lbs. together) and water weight. My ankles really swelled towards the end so the water was plentiful. :) I know it seems like a lot but really, it didn't feel like I gained that much so while the scale will go up, it'll probably just feel more like a number than anything. And you'll get rid of a lot of it on their birthday.

      My thoughts are with you!

  15. Hey there! Stumbled upon your post...i know everyone is different, but I find myself wondering how long it took for you belly to bounce back. Is it the same? Did you slather on the bio oil and cocoa butter? I'm super scared. 8 weeks with twins.

    1. Hiya! Oh man, it's been so long ago... I know that I bounced back faster after the twins than after either of my later pregnancies. So maybe two-three months? I think that had everything to do with the fact that they were my first pregnancy and I breastfed exclusively which made the extra weight melt off and that belly go down quick. I actually slathered on olive oil to soothe itchy skin while I was pregnant and got away without any stretch marks. So was it the oil or genes? I don't know. Maybe both. I was so scared when I first found out I was pregnant with twins too. I googled twin bellies though and, oh my gosh, the results are dramatic. Don't do it! Haha! Enjoy your pregnancy! Twins are a blast! :)

  16. You're so sweet! Thank you for responding so quickly! It is also my first pregnancy, so I stumbled upon your blog because I was googling post-twin belly, lol. Oh my Lord. I started googling the cost of tummy tucks (vain, I know) after. I have a little of a bigger than usual food baby-looking belly, so it got me on the googling rampage. Do you mind me asking how far along you were when you started to show, or at least noticeable to you and hubby? Was it 12 weeks? I hate to sound so focused on what I look like, because trust me, I am pumped to show off a baby bump, but I just wanna know what I could maybe have in store...like mount Rushmore out the front of my body. Thank you, again! You have such a lovely little family!!

    1. Hahaha! Mount Rushmore...haha! Don't worry, you're not vain! It was a worry of mine too! I was terrified after that first google search. Eek. I think I was around 11-12 weeks when I barely started to show...or looked like I had a big lunch. I learned how capable a woman's body is of carrying not just one but two babes and how the end results aren't much different than just having one kid. So, don't worry. You'll get big but you'll be surprised at how your body will handle it, during and after. :) Congrats again! <3

  17. Again, thank you! You are so sweet! We are pumped!! And I am so grateful that there are people out there that are easily accessible to ask questions (you). Seeing how beautiful you are during your pregnancies gives the rest of us hope. Have a wonderful weekend and beyond! This probably isn't the last you've heard from me with questions, lol. :-)

  19. Thank you so much for this post! Yesterday a very annoying co-worker of mine told me my belly is too small for a twin pregnancy. Looking at your 17 weeks pics reassured me my belly is perfectly ok, thank you very much. Loved all your pics!
